Bold juxtapositions of patterns and hues, artfully woven into a cohesive visual narrative, are what make this lovely Bengaluru home truly stand apart. Underpinned by compelling geometrics and a vibrant colour palette, the design vocabulary is warm, cosy, and confidently contemporary. Each room tells its own distinct story while maintaining a harmonious dialogue with the spaces around it.
Strategy Consultant Shirish Pottu works for Shell, and had a very clear idea of how every space in his spacious 3 BHK in Rajajinagar should play out. He knew he wanted a focus on comfort, an abundance of light, and spaces that felt inviting. Spaces where he could actually enjoy every moment, rather than creating showpiece rooms that looked perfect but felt sterile. This philosophy guided his collaboration with the HomeLane team, who helped translate his vision into reality. Amid delicious shades of warm orange, rich creams, subtle greens and serene blues, this beautiful home unfolds into a visual delight.

You enter into a living room that’s a warm hug, dominated by an accent wall in a sumptuous shade of cantaloupe orange. Building on a minimalist base, the designers have enriched the space with varied textures and strategically placed collectibles, creating a space that’s both magazine-worthy and genuinely liveable!
A minimalist cream-colored sectional sofa with simple white pillows and decorative cushions invites you to sink in and relax, while the accent chair—patchworked out of little bits of patterned material—makes a style statement, adding a playful touch to the otherwise restrained interior.
“In this room we’ve created depth and drama with the orange accent wall”, Shirish tells us. “Mornings are beautiful here …. this room faces east, and the sun’s rays fall right on this wall, adding a lovely golden warmth!”
The simple recessed ceiling runs along the perimeter of the room, folding into the dining space alongside. LED strip lights cast a magical glow, while tiny spotlights add definition.
The TV unit, done up in Legno vertigrain and frosty white, is sleek and streamlined, with a mix of open shelves and closed cabinets for storage. Three push-to-open drawers with soft close mechanisms offer space for gadgets, while the display areas house Shirish’s collection of model vehicles and choice artefacts.
Moving into the dining area, the designers opted to continue the bold approach, maintaining the flow of the design. Dramatic striped wallpaper in mustard, black and olive green adds a striking backdrop to the extendable table with a sunny yellow top. White metal chairs complete the lively aesthetic, with the result being a space that feels connected to the living room’s energy while offering its own distinct personality.
“The cost of the living and dining spaces together came to about INR 4.47 lakhs”, Shirish tells us. “Out of this, the crockery unit was around 1 lakh, while the TV unit was about 1.3 lakhs.”
Talking about the crockery unit design, he tells us, “On the dining room wall, I wanted a unit that would highlight the displayed items, making them visually pop! We wanted to keep one wall as the focus, everything else is more subtle, and all your attention goes this way.” The unit does stand out and grab eyeballs, with elegant overhead lift-up units in clear glass and sleek aluminium frames offering space for displaying decorative items. Push-to-open drawers below neatly hold crockery and tableware.
“Mornings are important for me, and my daily routine starts with a steaming cup of coffee, or tea! So that was the ask as well—I wanted coffee tones in the cabinets! And that’s why we selected this rich cappuccino colour for the kitchen”, Shirish shows us around the smart L-shaped kitchen, which cost a total of INR 7.8 lakhs including the lighting and cabinetry.
The two-tone cabinets are in cappuccino and frosty white, with a white quartz countertop and brown quartz sink tying the look together. The zigzag tile in the backsplash was carefully chosen for the sense of rhythm and breezy dynamic it added to the kitchen.
As Shirish had told the HomeLane team when outlining his ideas, he wanted a kitchen where he could feel at ease. He smiles, “I wanted a kitchen that was inviting. I wanted to be able to spend time in the kitchen and not just be there because I needed to make a dish, but actually enjoy the process, have some music on, spend time here!” The design of the practical, yet stylish kitchen evolved from this brief.
To one side, the tall unit incorporates the OTG and microwave, and is fitted with push-to-open doors that tuck away the groceries for the month. A second run of upper cabinets in the loft ensures that there’s generous space to store kitchen items, keeping the sparkling white counters clutter-free.
Fluted glass lift-up units with sleek aluminium frames allow easy access to daily essentials, while closed cabinets nearby store utensils and kitchen tools. Spotlights inside the open shelves and glass cabinets showcase pottery and other collectibles.
All the cabinet shutters are handle-less, keeping the overall aesthetic sleek and streamlined. The designers have chosen kitchen accessories with care, focusing on both functionality and visual harmony. Integrated appliances maintain the kitchen’s clean lines while high-quality fittings ensure durability and ease of use.
Strip lights fitted below the overhead cabinets add a beautiful glow, making the overall vibe inviting, even as it adds practicality!
Storage solutions have been thoughtfully engineered to maximise space efficiency without compromising style—pull-out organisers for bottles, pot-pan drawers and cutlery trays create an intuitive workflow.
Corner spaces can be tricky, with storage that is often hard to reach! Here, double shutters with a rotating carousel unit have helped make the most of this awkward space.
Shirish follows a hybrid work arrangement and spends considerable time in his home office. The second bedroom has been converted into a dedicated home office. His brief to the design team was that he wanted a space that should be inviting, where he would want to spend time rather than being forced to work!
Shirish is all praise for the way the room has been designed, telling us, “The way it’s designed, this room gives me the allowance to add my own collectibles and books. This helps to make the space my own and I feel a sense of ownership. I like it more and more as the room evolves, and in that way also it’s worked out well!”
Striped wallpaper in powder blue, pale pink and white follows the dining room theme, adding a serene aesthetic that’s conducive to productivity. Shirish wanted the focus to be on the computer screen, with all the other elements in the room blending into the background.
As Shirish explains, “The idea was to keep it minimal so that as time goes on I can add more elements to the other walls. That possibility is also important, because the house grows with you!”
The cost of the home office including the workstation and overhead cabinet, storage, wallpaper, lamp and bookshelf, plus the lighting came to around INR 1.91 lakhs, a very cost-effective budget for such a lovely room!
The master bedroom, perhaps, best exemplifies the bold and practical design language that runs through the house. Shirish loves the colour blue, and as they brainstormed ideas for this space, the design brief started to take on an underwater feel. The colour palette is worked around an energy blue and ivory palette, with shades of grey, aqua and teal adding to the beachside vibes.
“For me the bedroom had to be a place where you walk in and automatically the mind shuts down. You go there to sleep, so the lights should be slightly dimmer, more subtle, and that is why we have fewer lights overall even in the cove ceiling.”
A turquoise accent wall creates a calming backdrop to the grey upholstered bed with a channelled headboard design. Blue checkered bed covers complement the colour story, while a playful blue shark plush toy finds pride of place on the bed. A round white-framed mirror reflects the filtered light in the room, creating a soft and serene ambience.
Shirish points out the various elements in the room, explaining, “Opposite the bed, we have white nature-themed wallpaper creating the peace that you need in a bedroom. You wake up, and you get up, and you see that wallpaper. You feel good and you want to start the day right because that brings out a certain sense of calmness!”
The floor-to-ceiling Armadio wardrobe is the highlight of the room; a masterpiece of elegance and functionality! High-gloss sliding shutters in electric blue and frosty white operate with whisper-soft precision, while there’s plenty of space for clothes and other wardrobe essentials.
Shirish loves the wardrobe design, telling us, “The sliding doors open gently, so softly. It’s something that’s completely very quiet. It makes no noise at all. It adds a lot of richness to the space and I think that’s come out really well!”
The chest of drawers alongside offers additional space for storing knick-knacks, while the open metal shelves above hold curated displays.
The cost of the entire bedroom, including the wardrobe, chest of drawers, open shelves, bed and side table, wallpaper and false ceiling came to around INR 5.12 lakhs.
In the bathroom, a streamlined storage cabinet with frosted glass doors provides discreet storage above the vanity, while the seamless mirror integration expands the sense of space. The vanity unit was priced at a modest INR 35,000.
We notice that the third bedroom in the house has been left deliberately bare. Any reason for this? Shirish smiles. “So you would realise that I’m a single guy living in the house, but then eventually I’ll have a partner. And when that partner comes in, I don’t want them to enter into a completely built-up space that reflects only my personality and ideas! They should feel a sense of ownership, which is why that one room is kept empty and open—so that they can design that space the way they want! “
True luxury in interior design isn’t about expensive materials or show-stopping pieces; it’s about creating spaces that support how you actually live, that make you feel happy every single day!
