You might be wondering how silverware can be used as home decor. Yes, silverware is glossy and elegant, but it can be placed on the dinner table or the silverware rack, and that’s it, right?

silverware

Well, that’s not true. You can get creative with silverware and use the natural sheen that pieces of cutlery have to create pieces of metal art. In this article, we give you 6 different ways of using silverware to decorate your home. Some of these can be done by yourself, and some may require a trip to the local art shop. Whichever idea you choose to use, it’s sure to spruce up the interiors of your home.

1. Magnetic Silverware Stand

If you have expensive and fancy silverware, why not show them off when they are not being used? You can do that by placing spoons, forks and knives at visible locations around the kitchen. But if you’re going to show off your silverware, you cannot just leave them hanging on a flat rack. Here’s a more stylish and creative way of showcasing your silverware – hanging them on a magnetic bar.

All you need to do is to fit a magnetic bar at a convenient and visible spot in the kitchen. You can then place the silverware (with the handle touching the bar for silverware you will use right off the rack) at different angles and distances to create an artistic piece with silverware right in your kitchen.

2. Framing Silverware

This is another excellent way to hang silverware as art. Although you will not be able to detach and use the silverware you use for this idea as in the previous one, it’s still a wonderful way of creating home decor with something as simple as a fork and a knife.

You can create this piece yourself, or buy one. It’s a wooden frame with a soft base and some silverware stuck in place. The piece itself is simple and elegant and will look good hanging on a wall or standing on a shelf. The only thing you have to be careful about is to make sure the colour of the frame and the base do not clash with the rest of the room’s decor.

3. Silverware in a Basket

Who says baskets are just for serving baguettes? You can also arrange silverware in a basket made of an earthly material like wicker and place them on the dinner table as a decorative piece, or just as a place to store silverware before they are used.

A basket with silverware is going to stand out and look interesting, so try not to place many other attractions on the table lest they compete for attention.

4. Vintage Silverware

Everything looks quaint and stylish in vintage – cars, houses, posters, and yes, silverware. You can buy vintage cutlery, pots, pans, and so on from a thrift store or even a high-end collector’s store and place them around your house as decorative pieces. You can create an entire kitchen set and place them together to be enjoyed as a piece, or place different items of vintage silverware at different places as standalone pieces of art.

You must, however, make sure to check if vintage objects suit your home’s decor. Vintage items are beautiful and have a rustic and old-school look to them that doesn’t go with every style.

5. Silver Goblets

This could be seen as an extension of vintage silverware, but silver goblets have an extra quality that warrants them a separate mention – royalty. Goblets, while having old-fashioned charm, also ooze royalty. You can buy silver (or gold) goblets and place them on your dining table or over the mantelpiece as decorative art. If you’re in a particularly celebratory mood, you could use these goblets to drink a beverage out of. Make sure they are clean though!

Just like with vintage silverware, goblets don’t suit every style of home interiors, so check whether they fit into your home decor.

6. Mystic Arabic Teapots

Artefacts from the middle east have always made fascinating home decor. Carpets, divans, and so on, are objects that we love having in our homes. They exude an aura of ancient Arabian mysticism.

If you want to add Arabic silverware to your home decor, you can start with teapots. Tea is a popular beverage in the middle east, and teapots are equally popular. To make them look like home art and not just standard teapots, look for old-styled silver teapots that have designs on them.
