Resin might have been traditionally used as an adhesive or varnish, but today, it is a prominent home decor material. Resin is a viscous fluid that takes the shape of the mould it is poured into when cooled. Resin is typically transparent and takes on a clear, glossy appearance when solidified, and that gives the finished product quite an exquisite look.

You can also mix colours into resin to get coloured home decor products. You can see why it is quickly becoming a favourite when it comes to art – it can be easily shaped into any design and it looks great!

In this article, we give you different resin based home decor items you can purchase (or make) to decorate your home.

1. Immortalise Flowers in Resin

This one’s quite a popular idea when it comes to resin art. Dried flowers look timeless and incredibly beautiful when immortalised in resin. If you’re planning to do this at home, all you need is a mould in the shape of the design you want, resin, and dried flowers.

Pour some resin into the mould (about a third of the mould), place the flowers, and then fill in the mould with resin. Once it dries, you can take it out of the mould and you have a beautiful transparent prop with colourful flowers inside. Place them as a centrepiece in the living room, on a mantle in the bedroom, or wherever you like. The flowers will add a dash of colour to the room.

You can play around with the shape of the mould and create (or buy) cubes, spheres, pyramids, and so on, and place them around your house.Immortalise flowers in resin

2. Resin Coasters

Resin coasters are a really hip and creative prop to have around a table. Like with other resin art, you can choose to do these yourself at home or buy them readymade. Resin coasters made with infused colour or with a colourful object (like a flower) embedded in them will add a dash of colour to the table and also make the drink you place on top of the coaster look good.

Colourful resin coasters may clash with the table if the table has a strong colour as well, in which case you can go with transparent resin coasters. They are colourless but they will have a glassy lustre that will look good on top of a coloured table.

3. Filling Table Gouges with Resin

This is an incredibly creative way to fix deep dents or large gouges in a table while making the damage look like planned art. You can even create dents or gouges and then fill them with plain or coloured resin.

The idea is to pour clear or colour-infused resin into the gouge, let it solidify, and then level it. This will address the gouge and add a unique, glossy element to the wooden table. This has to be done with precision to maintain the level of the tabletop and to have a good-looking finish, so you might want to hire experts.

4. Resin Tables

If you’re not too keen on having a table that is a fusion between wood and resin in your home, you can opt for a table made completely of epoxy resin. Resin tables have a glossy finish to them and are quite elegant. You can choose a table that has a combination of two or more colours to add to the flavour.

5. Resin Keychains Hung Around the House

This one you can try and do yourself. Resin keychains make excellent home decor that you can hang from places as a prop or use for your keys. You can also gift them to guests who visit. You can create (or buy) single letters, complete words, numbers that represent a date, different shapes, and so on, the possibilities are endless.

While they seem simple to make at home, you will need some raw materials like the resin, a mould in the shape of the locket, and the chain. These are however things you can easily buy online or at a shop. You can also purchase readymade resin keychains that you can directly use as home decor.

6. Resin Clocks

It’s not often that a clock is hung on a wall as a piece of art, and that’s because most clocks are simple in design. Clocks crafted from resin, however, are every bit a piece of art as they are a utility item.

This one might be difficult to make at home, so you can look for readymade resin-crafted clocks. Coloured resin has an abstract look to it, and the glossy finish of glass. This will give the clock a creative and exquisite look that will look great on your wall.

Getting Started with Resin

Resin art looks easy to make, but it takes some level of precision to get right. If you’re making fun items like a keychain you could probably get away with crude finishing, but for prominent interior decor furniture like a table or a living room centrepiece you may be better off purchasing readymade products.
