By - June 19, 2025

Step inside this vibrant Chennai home and you’ll quickly realise—minimalism isn’t for everyone! Here, bold hues dance across cabinetry, carefully curated artefacts are displayed artfully, and every corner bursts with personality. Designed as a joyful expression of its owners’ love for all things colourful, this home is anything but shy. From punchy pinks to sapphire blues, you’ll find a palette that sparks happiness in every room.

This home shows us that when creativity takes the lead, joy follows. Come, let’s take a peek!

Living Room

Total cost: INR 2.8 lakhs

  • TV unit: INR 1.2 lakhs
  • Louvred panel: INR 30,000
  • Electrical modifications: INR 55,000
  • Entrance of living wall panel with lights: INR 75,000

The living room wraps you in a warm hug, with rich wooden tones anchoring the space. The entertainment unit, faced in walnut, takes up the entire length of one wall. Vertical glass cabinets with soft lighting showcase curated décor pieces, while matte-finished drawers add a refined, clutter-free aesthetic.

There’s a carefully orchestrated play of textures, from the panelled backdrop to the soft fabric wall cladding, beautifully lending depth and sophistication to the unit. Talking about the design and the need for the panelling, the HomeLane designer tells us, “We had to make many electrical changes at the site to accommodate all the lighting and shift the electrical points. The total cost for the electrical work in the living and dining areas came to approximately 55,000.”.

Pooja and Crockery

Total cost: INR 1.75 lakhs

  • Crockery and pooja unit: INR 90,000
  • Louvred wall panel: INR 40,000
  • Tall display unit: INR 45,000

Extending the material palette from the living room, the adjoining dining space features a functional and practical pooja and crockery unit. Rich walnut laminates pair easily with matte white finishes, accentuated by display shelves in glass.

The beautifully carved jaali panel at the centre of the pooja unit grabs attention—its symmetrical pattern adding a burst of artistry to the otherwise clean-lined cabinetry. Below, ample closed storage ensures everyday essentials remain out of sight but close at hand.

Modular Kitchen

Total cost: INR 4 lakhs

Drenched in vibrant colour, this lively modular kitchen is all things practical! The aqua blue cabinets are as refreshing and cool as it gets, lending tonnes of style and character to the thoughtfully designed space. The glossy finish of the cabinets reflects natural light, enhancing the open, airy feel of the spacious layout.

Talking about how the design of the kitchen evolved, the designer tells us, “The client wanted a really bright looking space since this was an open kitchen and it had to be incorporated into the dining area as well. So we have given them this nice aqua high-gloss laminate. This was originally a semi-modular kitchen design given by the builder with the countertop and the slab laid inside, but we have designed it in such a way that it looks completely modular from the outside when you look at it!”

And the kitchen design is indeed everything that the client envisioned—bold, functional, and a warm centrepiece of the home!

Overhead, glass-fronted cabinets and open shelves allow for easy access to frequently used items—ideal for efficient, functional cooking! At the far end, a half wall separates the main kitchen from the utility area, keeping storage and clutter out of sight.

The aluminium tambour unit—especially requested by Vidhya—tucks away knick knacks, tools and appliances out of sight. In her words, “We can never have too much storage in the kitchen, and as ladies, we always look for more and more storage options! Wherever we have space, we should make use of it to the maximum possible. We can store everything behind the rolling shutter, so that the kitchen looks perfect at all times”

The kitchen accessories are chosen with care, handpicked by Vidhya to house all her kitchen utensils and appliances. Next to the cooktop, the oil pull-out stores all the bottles of oil, condiments and sauces right next to where they are most needed.

Lightweight glass shutters with aluminium frames lend openness and transparency to the kitchen, making it appear visually lighter. The hydraulic lift-up hinges offer smooth, effortless access to everyday items.

Vidhya wanted a breakfast counter that could be used for quick meals, casual chats and as an extra prep space. The sleek black granite top contrasts beautifully with the aqua-toned laminate, tying the aesthetic together. Tall bar stools are planned to be added at a later date.

Master Bedroom

Total cost: INR 4.5 lakhs

  • Armadio Wardrobe: INR 3.5 lakhs
  • TV Unit: INR 80,000
  • Louvered panelling: INR 20,000

Describing the wardrobe in the master bedroom, the designer explains, “The clients wanted a truly premium, luxurious touch for this room, along with the functionality of a sliding wardrobe. To achieve this, we designed a floor-to-ceiling Armadio wardrobe, which instantly elevates the space with its high-end appearance.

This particular sliding wardrobe features the Nova profile, with sleek, built-in handles that sit flush against the surface—there’s absolutely no projection, giving it a clean and seamless finish. The exterior is crafted entirely in lacquered glass, adding to its refined look. Inside, we’ve used a cambric finish for a soft, cohesive interior design.”

Next to the wardrobe is a compact entertainment unit with a dressing table and mirror on one side, complete with top-hinged overhead cabinets. The mix of closed storage and open shelving allows for both aesthetics and practicality—books, décor, or media items all find a neat home here.

Daughters’ Bedroom

Total cost: INR 3 lakhs

  • Wardrobe and Loft: INR 2 lakh
  • Study Unit: INR 1 lakh

The children’s bedroom is a vision in pink, all sugar, spice and candy—every little girl’s dream space! Vidhya tells us, “Both of my daughters are pink lovers, and they were very clear about their preferences right from the start. From the wardrobes to the study unit, everything was done in pink—just the way they wanted!”

The matte pink laminate is beautifully balanced with deep purple and subtle black accents. This helps to balance the brightness of the pink, while still achieving the fun, lively aesthetic they had in mind.

The study zone is thoughtfully divided, giving each child their own dedicated space and ample storage—making homework time a whole lot easier!

Guest Bedroom

Total cost: INR 2 lakhs

  • Wardrobe and Loft: INR 1.2 lakhs
  • Seating space with loft: INR 80,000

Pointing out the features of the guest bedroom, the designer tells us, “The client’s brief for this room was to create more of a family room—a space where everyone could come together and relax. We designed a base unit along with wall panelling, which doubles as a comfortable sitting area. The storage underneath is perfect for stashing away all the extra things the kids have in this room. To add to that, we gave them additional storage in the loft above.”

Vidhya adds to this, ”The idea was to avoid placing too many chairs that usually end up just sitting unused. Instead, we thought—why not build a long seating cabinet with a cushion on top? It’s functional and welcoming! And we didn’t include a TV on purpose, because the idea was to create a space that encourages conversation.”

Tucked away into a niche, the smart wardrobe in pistachio is lined with matte black, making a bold style statement. The dressing table is neatly added to the centre of the unit, and the loft cabinets till the ceiling maximise every inch of available space in the room.

Total Budget: INR 18 lakhs
