The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world and the way we spend our day. Work from home, school from home, and managing home have drained us of our energies physically and psychologically too.

But the positive side of spending so much time at home also allows us to rediscover different types of hobbies. This not only helps us bring joy but also enriches our lives at the same time. To help you feel more at peace at home, we have curated a list of interesting hobbies that you can pick up on and utilise that time at home to know yourself better.

Pick up a Musical Skill

Melodious music is something that no one can dislike, whether you enjoy singing or playing a musical instrument. There are many Youtube videos or online classes to enroll in to learn or play that favourite song. If you are fond of dancing, this can be easily incorporated into our busy schedules in the confinement of your home. You only need some space and internet connectivity to kickstart your musical journey.

Pick a Relaxation Activity

From yoga to meditation to pranayam, all of these activities are good for mental and physical well-being. It only needs a little space, and many videos are available online for guidance, especially if you are a beginner. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become crucial to keep ourselves fit and healthy for improved immunity. Yoga, meditation, or pranayama will not only keep you away from negative thoughts but will keep your lungs and heart-healthy too.

How about Cooking or Baking?

Whether you enjoy eating that sugary cake or a healthy salad, it’s time to learn how to cook! Don the chef’s hat, gather the basic ingredients and equipment, and get ready to impress everyone at the dinner table. With online deliveries of ingredients, you can try your hands on a fancy dish once in a while too.

Cooking is a skill that stays with you forever and will help you survive any odd situation without relying on unhealthy restaurant food and online delivery options. It makes you connect with your kids if you choose to involve them in the cooking activity. And bonus point, it is one of the best stress-busters too!

Get back to Reading and writing

Do you know when Shakspeare wrote King Lear? There is a theory that he wrote during the quarantine period in plague years! With many of us quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is the right time to start penning down your ideas. You can either create your blog or write short stories out of your wild imagination.

There can not be a better time to pick up that last book you left due to time constraints, as now is the time you can pick and start it again. With a kindle in hand, you can not fall short of reading options.

Exercise your blues away

If you’re not already a fitness buff, it is the right time to begin your journey. With the limited movement due to pandemic-induced lockdowns, our daily exercises like walking/running, etc., have taken a back seat. Since most of the time is spent doing office work or home chores, it has become essential to include physical exercises like cardio weights or Zumba in our daily lives.

This requires limited space and very little equipment. Physical activity also releases dopamine and endorphin chemicals in the brain, which makes you feel happy. It’s like hitting two birds with one stone.

Study a new Course

Did you dream of becoming a certain professional but could not fulfil it due to circumstances? It is never too late to study a new course and relive your dreams. Thanks to the pandemic, a lot of professional institutes are offering courses entirely online.

Whether you want to add that vocational skill to your CV or a full MBA degree, it is always a good time to fill your bag with academic accolades. It will benefit your career and give you an edge over the others while applying for a new job.

Play a game

It may sound childish, but you are never too old to play a board game or any game for that matter. It is the most refreshing activity from cards to carrom board that one can do as a family. It will help you bond with your kids or partner and make you feel happy.

Even an excellent old Ludo and snakes and ladder can add so much laughter to your gloomy day. Board games like Othello, scrabble, or Monopoly can give an adult a run for their money too!

With so many options mentioned, you don’t need to make a final decision just yet. Do try your hand with a few before checking what works well for you, what fits your schedule, and what interests you the most.

The activities mentioned need limited space in your home and minimal equipment to begin with. Here at HomeLane, we cater to your home interior to make space for anything you decide to take up. Whether you are trying to incorporate a dance studio in your living room or turn your bedroom into a mini gymnasium, we are here to help.
