10 Stylish Bed Designs to Transform Your Bedroom Comfort and Storage

By Usha Balasubramanyan- February 07, 2026

On the average, we spend a third of our lives in bed—which, if you think of it, makes your bedroom a very important part of your home indeed! As a key element of bedroom interior designs, the bed you choose should be as comfortable as it is stylish, since it’s the piece of furniture where you begin and end every single day of your life.

Here’s a compilation of ten modern bed designs that run the gamut of rustic to luxurious—take your pick!

#1. Wicker Style

Woven wickerwork furniture lends itself well to a variety of design styles, right from boho chic to classical as well as contemporary. Elegant, comfortable and fresh, this wicker bed comes with gently curved edges and a simple criss-cross weave. Pair it with non-fussy modern tables and wardrobes, and you have a room that’s seriously stylish!

#2. Low Platform Bed

A low bed always opens up the space, offering an unobstructed view that makes your bedroom seem larger than it is. This sleek and stylish wood-finished bed appears to float just off the surface of the floor. The negative vertical space above the bed can be filled by a large piece of art that suits your dƩcor theme.

#3. Upholstered Bed

In this bedroom, the plush padding on the headboard is accentuated by diamond quilting that makes it soft and ultra-comfortable, while the purple and grey colour palette offers a playful vibe.

A bed that has built-in storage, both in the headboard and in the form of deep drawers below, is perfect for those who like to work or read in bed. You can stow away your laptop, files, or books on the shelves above, and use the space below the bed for storing extra sheets and pillows.

Bed Design: What Should you Keep In Mind?

  • Always buy your bedroom furniture according to your requirement and the room size. Allow at least 3 feet of walk room on two sides of the bed, with at least 4 feet at the foot of the bed. For instance, if your bedroom is just 10 feet by 10 feet, then a King-sized bed will dwarf the room.
  • Bedside tables should be at least 3 feet in width and at least 15 to 18 inches in depth.
  • The average height of the bed, together with the mattress, is around 25 inches or just over 2 feet. If you are tall, you might want a higher bed that’s around 30 inches or 2 and a half feet off the ground. Low-slung beds can even be just 6 inches off the floor if you are opting for a low furniture style.
  • An upholstered headboard is ergonomic as it provides additional support for the head and neck. This comes in useful if you have a habit of reading in bed!
  • If you’d like to get extra storage in the room, you can consider both lift-up storage (where the platform can be lifted up to access deep storage inside the entire bed frame), or pull-out drawers on both sides of the bed.

A note of caution: While lift-up storage is air-tight, it cannot be accessed very easily as you will have to move the mattress and bed covers out of the way. And pull-out drawers are often not air-tight, so you might find that whatever you store below the bed gets a bit dusty.
