Essentials in the COVID-19 world have changed. Masks and hand sanitisers are new addons that people must carry when stepping outside their homes. Home care and household requirements have also changed. People are using stronger disinfectants; they need a segregated space to keep deliveries. Many people have even installed dishwashers and other tools because of Corona. Parents and kids all are spending more time at home. Home-cooked meals are being prioritized over take-outs. There are many more alterations that people had to make in their lifestyle to adjust to this world. This has led to new requirements in their home décor and interior designing. Post-COVID-19, both homeowners and interior designers will focus on ways to make life comfortable and suitable for people who are now spending more and more time inside their homes.

In this article, we will talk about the ways interior design will alter, improve and adapt to the newer needs of people. We have divided home interiors into different sections for clearer picture and understanding.

Entrance

People will focus on better home interiors and calmer and evergreen home décor for entrance. They are going to ensure that the entrance stays tidier with little effort. Preference will be given to keeping bags, coats, masks, and keys at the entrance only. Anything that travels away from the rest of the house. Not only this, home interior experts suggest that future homes will have a partition in their shoe racks. Those who didn’t care about it in the pre-COVID-19 era will surely follow the unsaid rule of leaving shoes outside the house. Homes in the post-COVID-19 era will have a small section near the entrance or at the entryway to keep the deliveries. They will also need more key hooks to hang their masks. Post COVID-19 world will be all about functionality over aesthetics.

Living Room

Many people will add more comfortable sofas or recliners to their living rooms. Those who don’t have extra rooms will add a table and comfortable chair and create an office section. Kids might also spend more time at home, and therefore, many parents may request home interior designers to design and create an activity zone for them. For older children, parents have already started investing in temporary study tables and located them next to electrical sockets. Most of the homes will need at least three to four sockets near the bed or chair or sofa to work on a laptop or use a phone while charging their devices. Future home décor will definitely see the fancier and elegant placement of electrical sockets as the gadget use and dependency is increasing day by day. Now interior designers must consider these factors when designing for a living room.

Master Bedroom

Before COVID-19, bedrooms were for just relaxing and sleeping; however, because of the pandemic, people are spending most of their time at home. These days most of the people live in 2/3/4 BHK. So, if you are living in a home where the number of residents is equal to the number of rooms, someone has to use the bedroom for work or other activities. Many people will continue to spend over 14 hours in their bedrooms. People live in a large home or a studio apartment; they will use each room for multiple functions. The bedroom is the most treasured room in every home that needs to become supremely functional. Multi-purpose furniture like sofa cum bed, wardrobes with smarter storage, extended work tables and large windows for great ventilation will be some of the most sought after features of futuristic home interior designing.

Kitchen

Did you bake a cake in 2020? Yes, you did! All of us may not have baked a cake this year, but we have visited the kitchen more this year when compared to any other year of our lives. Even kitchen virgins now know the ways to cook Maggie in multiple ways. Lockdown has changed the way people used to think about food essentials. Now they prefer to store non-perishable groceries for at least a month which made them realize the need for suitable storage space or a spacious pantry. With more people becoming kitchen-savvy, they would like to fill it with the latest equipment and tools. The kitchen in future will be super-functional. Easy to operate and maintain interiors will be the most frequently used words during client and designer’s interaction in the coming years.

Home Office

Work from home is a phrase that reflects the current working culture of almost all companies. People are finding creative ways to create a functional office space at home. It is not healthy to work for six hours or more from the bed or sofa. People need actual furniture and space to function and be productive. Keeping personal and professional life separate is a continuous struggle. People need a way to feel motivated to go to (we mean to begin) the workday every day. Some people are converting storerooms, or half-bedrooms or kids’ rooms into an office. Some people are segregating a corner of their living room or bedroom to create a designated space for their work routine.

Indoor Workout

COVID-19 has hampered our lifestyle drastically. Continuing the workout and staying fit has taken a backseat for many of us. A yoga room or indoor home gym will be a great way for people to stay motivated and stick to the routine. Smaller house owners might ask home décor experts to incorporate a shelf or drawer in a way that it can become a designated workout area. Bigger house owners might own a rowing machine or some ropes or rods to do pull-ups or anything that can motivate the people living in the house to move.

Post-COVID-19 interior design will be all about stretching every area of the house and getting maximum output from each piece of furniture. Homes will be playing multiple roles in the lives of people. The home will be the office, gym, playground, and every space that people generally visit daily. Interior designers will be creating homes that can accommodate all these requirements in one home.
