When it comes to the interiors of your new home, you are faced with two options for the execution; should you decide to choose the modular style of cabinetry that everyone seems to be talking about, or would the traditional style of carpenter-made woodwork be your best choice? We talk about what each option entails, so you can make an informed decision.
Modular interiors, on the other hand, are factory-made to precise measurements, giving a professional finish. Carpenters are only used for putting everything together at the site.
So, now that you know basically what each option entails, we’ve answered some doubts that many of our clients frequently have!
No, they will not be able to undertake anything other than carpentry. Stonecutters are specialists who use different tools, and core cutters require a separate set of tools and enough expertise to cut through the wall or beams.
After all, we are not able to see what goes inside the core of the modular cabinets once they are finished!
Unless you are buying the materials yourself, there is no special assurance of material quality when you hand over the job to a carpenter. By using the services of reputed modular kitchen specialists, you will anyway have the assurance of a warranty at the end of the project, as well as the knowledge that they will not use inferior materials that are not as per the specifications given to you.
Once the contract is signed and work is started at the factory, alterations are not possible. If you really need revisions, they could be accommodated at a cost.
Panelled shutters or customized mouldings are not possible, but there is a range of beautiful wooden finish options that look just like handmade classical designs. The modular designs will also last longer than traditional woodwork.
Traditional carpenter-made work using veneers or wood will need to be touched up and re-polished again after a few years. It is also susceptible to bending due to weather changes and can get damaged by insects. Modular cabinets can usually be wiped clean with a damp cloth, and as the core material is well treated and durable, there will be no damage from insects or dimensional changes.
If you have the time and patience to deal with carpenters and are looking for a highly customized design option, then you can choose to opt for traditional woodwork. However, if you are looking for a professional, factory-made finish that is durable and requires little to no maintenance, then do try out modular options!
And if you do decide to take the modular route, take a look at HomeLane’s designs and the completed projects for inspiration. You can collaborate with your designer and see what your home interiors will look like before it’s ready, and know what the costs will be – transparency at its best!
