What is the Ideal Balcony Direction as per Vastu?
All open spaces, such as balconies, terraces, and decks, should be located in the North, East, or North-East of your house. It is not considered wise to locate a balcony in the opposite corner, the South-West. Ideally, the level of the balcony in the North-East should be one step lower than the rest of the house.
Vastu Colours for the Balcony
Dark colors absorb energy and do not allow it to pass through, while white or light colors reflect and bounce the light around, sending it into the far corners of your home. For this reason, you should choose to paint your balcony walls in shades of white, cream, or soft blue.
Balcony as an Extension
If the balcony is extending out beyond the walls of the building, make sure that the extension is only in the North or East directions. Any extension beyond the external walls in the South or West is considered extremely inauspicious, and you could lose money, attract litigations, and fall sick.
Balcony Grill Designs
Any grill that allows the free flow of air, while following safety norms, is preferred by Vastu. A well-designed grill is preferred over a brick wall that will block the sunlight. If the balcony grill is made of metal, ensure that it is well maintained and does not rust.
Location of Water Outlet in the Floor
The North-East corner of the balcony is the ideal location for the rainwater outlet. The slope of the balcony floor should be lowest at the North-East corner. Water should always flow from the South to the East, or the West toward the North.
Placing Balcony Furniture
If you’re lucky enough to have a large balcony where you can sit down and enjoy the fresh air, you could place some casual seating and a centre table for outdoor dining. Vastu mandates that any heavy furniture should be placed in the South or West sides of the balcony, and you should sit facing the North and East.

While the highest point of a pitched roof should be located in the South West quadrant, the roof should slope down toward the North or East according to Vastu.
Balcony Garden

Can the Balcony be Circular or Have Angled Edges?
As per Vastu, only square or rectangular balconies are acceptable. Any other polygonal or circular shape is not advised as it will not have the right definition. The edges should be at ninety degrees and should not be chamfered or curved.
