Behind the Scenes with HomeLane at Jigar and Ishita’s Mulund Home

By - April 23, 2024
As you walk into Jigar and Ishita’s 4BHK apartment in Mulund, Mumbai, the first thing that awes you is the sheer expanse. Their lovely sanctuary has been worked on a contemporary décor theme, an oasis of calm set high in Mumbai’s skyline! The neutral colour play throughout adds to the spaciousness and elegant aesthetics.

Open Plan Home

The open plan living and dining area is a wash of white, with a few pops of colour in the cushions. The colours articulate the spaces and bring them all together. The false ceiling allows for cove lighting and cleverly designed ambient lights. The light and breezy floor-to-ceiling drapes add a soft dimension to the decor.

Living Room Partition

On the far end of the room next to the dining, the entire wall is covered with bevelled mirrors. This visually enhances the space and bounces and reflects light around the room. The light printed curtains let the sunshine in, enhancing the quality of light and allowing the play of lovely patterns of shadows on the polished tile floors.

Living Room Seating

To go with the contemporary setting, Ishita has kept the dining table sleek and modern. The chairs have been upholstered in the same lush cream fabric as the sofa. The entire room is done up in rich shades of cream and brown, lending an air of quiet elegance and luxury to the spaces.

Clutter is something that the couple hates, and you won’t find any of it in their home! This is most evident in the kitchen, where anything and everything has its place. The colours and materials seamlessly work together to create visual harmony.

Kitchen Designs

At the same time, the design keeps the utility levels at a high too. A lovely shade of green has been chosen for the lower cabinetry. It blends beautifully with the smoky grey used on the upper cabinets and tall units. The shutters which are finished to perfection, are in high-gloss laminate. The square grey tiles in the backsplash provide visual relief in the form of pattern and texture.

Upholstery Furniture

Jigar’s den is his quiet space in the home with a gorgeous comfy two-seater, upholstered in patchwork fabrics. This is a lovely way to upcycle scrap materials that have seen better times. The cerulean blue focus wall beautifully sets off the cream hues in the rest of the room.

Children’s Bedroom

Jigar and Ishita’s two daughters share a lovely, warm bedroom. It is swathed in shades of blue, cream and bright yellow. The straight-lined furniture makes the room visually light and opens up the spaces. As the girls love to dance, the two beds pushed to either side of the room create a large central area for them. The sliding wardrobe shutters are partly mirrored and match the colours in the room.

Girl’s Bedroom

Pops of bright yellow add liveliness and a youthful vibe to the girls’ bedroom. The pretty checked curtains infuse it with all the brightness. Additional storage is tucked away below the bed, in the form of deep drawers. These can be easily pulled out to store extra bed linen and pillows for sleepovers.

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom is dominated by shades of brown in the walls, the furniture and even the flooring. This adds all the sophistication and elegance to the room. The tall windows open to a sweeping cityscape view of Mulund, showcasing tall skyscrapers as far as the eye can see. Ishita has chosen to add some colour and vibrancy to the room with bold shades of red and yellow in the bedcovers.

Study Room and Guest Room

For the study room, the family chose to maximize the available space by installing twin invisible beds and study desks. The room thus converts to a guest bedroom, just right for the occasional unexpected guest. Here, they have experimented with the textured wallpaper which adds a whitewashed brick look to the wall.
“We couldn’t have asked for anything more than this!” Ishita says about their home. Their family and friends couldn’t agree more about her dream house. They keep telling her how every space in their home is awash with ‘good vibes’ and positive energy. For Ishita and Jigar, who had always lived in a joint family, this is the perfect first home they had always wanted!
