Kitchen and cleanliness are two terms that don’t often go together. Where there are cooking and food, there are spills and stains. Cleaning with harsh chemicals isn’t good for our health. These 3 easy DIY cleaning agents are homemade, safe and will help you keep the kitchen looking spic and span all the time.

Every day in the kitchen is one of constant activity – cooking, frying, steaming – and the resultant mess. The cooking space gets dirty and fast. What we often do is wipe them down temporarily; wash the dishes, scour pans and sanitize counters. Deep cleaning is done every once in a while, however, removes food and grease splatters, stray stains and stubborn spills. Store-bought cleaning agents work great but have ingredients that are often questionable, a noxious mix of chemicals that can cause allergies or worse still, are carcinogenic.

Kitchens can be cleaned with ingredients that are considered food. Baking soda, vinegar are natural cleaners, that smell great and sanitize too.

1.  Refrigerator Cleaning

Fridges are often neglected. We get to clean them once every couple of months and often when the mess gets out of hand.

Fridge cleaning Tips

Before scrubbing down fridges, it is best to turn it off or up the temperature to save energy while cleaning. Ensure that all foodstuff is removed, smelly and expired foods are discarded. Remove all the movable parts inside it, including shelves and wash them separately with natural soap if possible.

Refrigerator cleaning agents are easy to prepare. Below is the recipe,

  • White Vinegar – 1cup
  • Hot water – 2 cups
  • Essential Oil – 10 drops (optional)

Combine all the above ingredients in a bucket of water or spray bottle. Dip a soft cloth into this mixture and wipe the insides of the fridge with this. Finish it with a clean, damp wipe. Once completely dry, replace all the food and turn the temperature down again.

2. Kitchen Floor Cleaner

Of all the places in the home, the kitchen sees the most foot traffic. Shoes, bare feet, and even paws bring in and take out plenty of germs and dirt. Food remnants drip, and stains often accumulate in grout lines, wall edges and under appliances. Although cleaning is done regularly, the kitchen floors do need deep cleaning every once in a while. Disinfecting them not just sanitizes the floor but also makes them shine.

Naturally available materials in the kitchen make for great disinfectants. Below is how to make a basic floor cleaner. It can be used on any kind of tiles, laminates, sealed wood and linoleum.

  • White Vinegar – 1 part

Mix them up and they are good to use. In case floors need a good polish as well a scrub, the below homemade cleaner works.

  • Lemon Juice – 1/2 cup
