“Vastu” is a Sanskrit term that can be broken into two parts: “Vaas”, which translates to “live”, and “Tu”, which means “you”. Vaastu focuses on the places you live or dwell. These include your home, any properties you own as well as your office areas.

Is Vastu Important?

Vaastu aims to bring equilibrium to the house. It takes all the elements in the area as well as the furniture present in the house and brings in the advantage of knowing the science behind forming that equilibrium for a happy and prosperous life.

It removes negative energy and creates a space for positive actions to pan out through the course of a family’s living in a house.

A well-ordered home, as opposed to a cluttered and chaotic one, can make all the difference. You can feel visible ease of living and a shift in energy when your home is aligned with Vaastu principles.

The peace and harmony brought by Vaastu through nature also help the individuals residing in the house to maximize their potential, grow to new heights and feel comfortable at home.

Vastu Tips for Diwali

If you’ve been feeling disharmony in your home’s energy and have been experiencing a lot of negativities in your daily living, Diwali might be a great time to take Vastu into consideration.

You can find visible changes in the pace of your work, ease of everyday living and find yourself feeling better- and well-informed decisions for the future.

vastu tips for diwali

Here are some ways to correct the energy in your house during Diwali with the help of Vaastu:

  • Remove any shoe racks or shoes kept outside the house and clear the entrance to your home.
  • Clean your shelves, wardrobes, empty spaces, pots and any opened surface in your house.
  • Declutter every open surface as well your daily containers, kitchen essentials, wardrobes and any other item you might want to throw away. These also include things that are broken and unusable.
  • Make your home entrance well lit. A lot of Diyas or simple lighting can make all the difference.
  • Rearrange your mandir or puja corner to be in the northeast part of the room. Always face the east while praying.
  • Place a lit Diya or a lamp near our water pot in the kitchen. These should be lit with pure ghee only.
  • Start by lighting the Diya in your mandir or the puja corner and then seek out dark spaces or corners in the rest of the household.
  • Eliminate eating on your bed or in your bedroom or places of study, as this may cause unrest and digestive problems.
  • Do not keep any form of cacti or thorny plants or flowers in the house.
  • Do invest in indoor plants and add a bit of greenery to your living room and bedrooms.
  • Place some saltwater in your rooms to reduce the negative energy in the room. You can alternatively spray the saltwater.
  • Repair any broken locks and electronics, knobs, doors or other furniture in your house.
  • Do not make rangolis with the face of a deity such as Saraswati, Ganesha or Laxmi at your home entrance. A rangoli of the Swastika will help prohibit negative energy from entering the house.
  • Always buy and/or gift new valuables rather than getting antiques from secondary markets during Diwali.
  • You can also give sweets to enhance your relationship with other people.
  • Do not clean your puja corner or mandir as well as idols with a used toothbrush or used cloth. Always use a fresh cloth to clean the same.
  • It is ideal for keeping the Shiva Yantra or Kuber Yantra along with your idols in your mandir.
  • You can use flowers or different coloured powder to make rangolis. However, the use of paint is discouraged.
  • Always conduct your Diwali puja at the given mahurat. You should also look at knowing the chants and hymns required to perform the puja. If they aren’t readily available or known to you, it would be advisable to take the help of someone else for the same.
