At HomeLane, we support gender equality and salute the contributions of our powerful women workforce. We take this opportunity to bring to the limelight one of our shining stars in Mumbai, Anvitaa Patil, who has designed many beautiful homes for HomeLane’s customers. Here are a few snippets from our conversation with Anvitaa about being a woman in the field and what drives her. women's day celebration

1. What made you choose Interior Design as your career?

I’ve always been inclined to doing things that involve using my skills creatively. It became more channelled towards interiors during my junior college days when I used to observe my father undertaking our home or office renovations over the years (even though he had no formal education of the same). Seeing the results of his passion inspired me to pursue design as a career.

2. Interior design is one of the few industries which is said to have an even contribution from the male and female workforce. Why do you think this is?

I’m so glad it is! With all due respect to the men out there, I think women have a certain instinct and creativity that is difficult to match. Maybe that’s why we are excelling in this field.

3. What is your favourite thing about your job?

I love how every project is a blank canvas and an opportunity to create something new. It’s the most satisfying thing to be able to transform somebody’s house into a home and play such an essential role in their lives.

4. Do you feel the general perception of women in the sector has changed over the years?

I would like to believe that women are far more vocal and driven about their skill set today. This, in turn, has made people take us more seriously and may also be the reason why we are perceived as being more fierce now. In effect, there are more women in higher managerial positions now than before.

5. Any suggestions for other women foraying into interior design/home interiors?

Interior Design is a vast field. I believe passion drives ambition, and if you take this as a career path, although it could be a slow start, with perseverance and hard work, you’ll get where you want to be.

6. How has HomeLane contributed to your career?

HomeLane has been a stepping stone for my career as a designer. In my time working here, I’ve had numerous opportunities to showcase my skill set as a designer. I’ve also been fortunate to be recognized by my ever-supportive managers and directed in the right career path.

7. What does Women’s Day mean to you?

I think it’s nice to have a day dedicated to us. I don’t think we give ourselves enough credit! It’s a day where I see women’s achievements highlighted and their hard work recognised.

8. Who inspires you?

My sister Anisha inspires me with the way she has single-handedly built her career with her sheer hard work and passion (she owns a successful fashion label).
